Weather Conditions and Weather Events are various occurrences that may affect fish spawn rates and/or reveal exclusive gameplay mechanics.

Time & Weather

The in-game weather, time, and season can influence the catch rate of some fish. Totems can be used to control weather conditions or accelerate the flow of time.

Day and Night Cycle

The day and night cycle refers to the rising and setting of the Sun and Moon, which can affect the catch rates of diurnal or nocturnal fish.

  • A full day lasts approximately 25 minutes, consisting of 12.5 minutes of day and 12.5 minutes of night.
    • Certain factors, such as server lag, may slightly extend this duration.
  • A Sundial Totem can be used to speed up the celestial cycle.
  • When outside of a fish's preferred time, assuming it has one, its spawn rate will be reduced by 90%.

Some events depend on the day/night cycle to manifest (e.g., Night of the Fireflies).

Weather

Many fish have higher chances of being caught depending on the weather. All weather conditions other than Clear can be summoned immediately with their respective Totem item.

There is no particular order in which weather conditions appear, as they are chosen at random at the start of every new day/night cycle; only one natural weather can occur every day/night cycle, the time that is not chosen will have the Clear weather. If a naturally-rolled weather does not meet its time-of-day requirement, it will also be replaced with Clear.

During a fish's preferred weather, its spawn rate will be increased by 35%.

Seasons

Seasons are universal across all servers. Each season lasts 576 real-life minutes, or approximately 9.6 hours.

  • During a fish's preferred season, its spawn rate will be increased by 25%.
    • The Seasons Rod further increases this by a multiplicative 40%, for a total boost of 75%.
  • Otherwise, its spawn rate will be reduced by 15% — even if it doesn't have a preferred season at all.

Admin Events

Admin Events are temporary global occurrences affecting all servers, featuring unique environment colours, regionless Special fish, and mutations. All Admin Events must be summoned by an in-game Administrator.

There is no specific order or time for Admin Events to occur, as they are chosen by Administrators at any time; thus, an Admin Event can seem spontaneous.

  • Admin Events usually happen around update time.

Admin Events do not override other Weather Conditions or Events while active.

During an Admin Event, players can catch every fish regardless of their Fishing Rods' maximum kg.

Events

Events are temporary occurrences that affect either the whole server or specific regions of the map (e.g., Shark Hunt). Events occur at the start of every new day and night, with some being exclusive to daytime or nighttime. Exceptions include Sparkling Totem, Shiny Totem, and Mutation Totem, which are not restricted to day/night cycles and can be used at any time. Such events can also affect Appraisal odds; for example, there is a greater chance to appraise a fish as Shiny during a Shiny Surge.

The chance for an event to occur is rolled when the daylight cycle changes, but there is a random cooldown between 42-53 minutes after one is triggered and after the server starts which prevents another from spawning.

Night of the Fireflies

All nocturnal fish have a catch rate. 1/3 chance to occur at the start of nighttime.

Night of the Luminous

Sparkling attribute catch and appraisal rates increased by +10%. 1/3 chance to occur at the start of nighttime or be summoned with Sparkling Totem.

Shiny Surge

Shiny attribute catch and appraisal rates increased by +3%. 1/3 chance to occur at the start of daytime and 1/9 chance to occur at the start of nighttime, or be summoned with Shiny Totem.

Mutation Surge

Catch and appraisal rates for Mutated fish increased by +15%. 2/3 chance to occur at the start of daytime and 2/9 chance to occur at the start of nighttime, or be summoned with Mutation Totem.

Moonlit Mirage

Fish caught during a Moonlit Mirage have a chance to be mutated with Lunar, which grants one stack of 'Moonlit Bonus'. Each stack provides +5% weight and value for all fish caught during the event, up to a maximum of +25%. Additionally, all weight buffs (e.g., Abyssal) stack additively as a percentage. The Moonlit Mirage can only occur during nighttime at a 15% chance and allows Lunar Threads to be caught at a 0.1% chance.

The effect only triggers from fishing rod catches; obtaining the mutation from appraisal or crab cages does not grant additional stacks.

Localized Events

Mini-Events

Mini-Events are distinguishable from regular events, as their server notifications are more subtle. They can affect the catch chances for a certain attribute of fish, but they do not affect any aspect of Appraisal.

They have a 25% at the start of a day or night to apply a random boost at an even chance, with the boost ranging from 1.1x-2x for each event.

The following are possible:

Trivia

  • During the initial release of the Ancient Isles update, meteors were bugged and would remain in place after crashing.
  • The ambiance heard near a Strange Whirlpool is the 2020–2021 intermission sound used in Flood Escape 2.
  • Most Admin Events are based on Fisch's administrators.
